Hagiographic Work

AG. PARASKEVI

Kalamaria, Thessaloniki

It is an emotional station for our iconographic house. The reason is more about the priests, and especially the late father Constantine, who was in charge of the church for a very long time.

It is a neighborhood church, built in the 50’s, which is characterized by the type of basilica. Architecturally, we were inspired to develop our program on the type of a basilica, and to try to give an atmosphere that suits this type, which is within the framework of the first Christian architectural forms.

This and some ideas we had such as the roof, we consider that makes our effort special. The request of the Blessed Reverend Prokopios to have a blue color on the roof, led us to choose this solution on the roof, which should contain a characteristic element. The characteristic element that we “invented” was the golden stars that His Eminence asked to take shape through a constellation of specific significance.

So we chose the astral map of the night during the day that Agia Paraskevi celebrates and specifically we came up with this set of stars, which we tried to give very high accuracy.

So, looking at the roof, one sees the sky during the feast of Agia Paraskevi.

The other special element we chose was the attempt to render the traditional aesthetics of the imperial type in terms of the decoration included below and sideways from the Arches that run through the central axis of the temple.

We considered that this type of architecture should be highlighted as much as possible, maintaining the traditional way of the royal type churches, which had this way of decoration and canonization. We also tried as a whole to keep the golden plain everywhere for reasons of lighting and enhancing the glow.

Our findings in the other sub-areas were such as to highlight these principles. We consider that the result is very good for the place where the church is located and for its architectural type.

"The result of the iconographic work of the Christodoulou brothers, is really impressive and we invite the whole Greek community to visit our church to admire the icons"

Judge Marina Corodemus

“We’re not doing this just because we want the church to look nice or colorful, ιt’s about what we believe. Iconography is so crucial to the daily life of the Orthodox Christian.”

Placement

Using seasonal and construction methods (acrylic media and rock and metal powders) we paint directly on properly prepared walls, either directly or indirectly by placing canvases already painted in our workshop.
In this way we ensure longevity and safety from future technical repair problems.
